Modelling Silvopastoral Trees for Sediment Control in New Zealand Hill Country: Research Video

June 2024

In this video, we explore the effectiveness of silvopastoral trees in reducing sediment delivery to streams. We discuss targeting tree planting based on landslide susceptibility models, focusing on water quality outcomes.

Results of this project include:

  • Not only is it important to know where landslides occur, but whether these landslide delivery sediment to stream – I.e. are they are connected to streams.
  • Including connectivity models dramatically increases cost-effectiveness of space-planting.
