Healthy Waterways is New Zealand’s national database for recording and reporting the work being done for our waterways.
Despite all the great work New Zealanders are doing to improve water quality, these actions are not being recorded and nobody is hearing about them. Healthy Waterways provides a register to record these actions and share these stories. Knowing the extent of the work across a catchment will allow us, eventually, to link the actions done on land to improved water quality outcomes.
The Healthy Waterways Land Management Actions Register was developed as part of a research project funded by the Our Land & Water – Toit ū te whenua, Toiora te wai National Science Challenge. This register will be used by land holders/managers, kaitiaki, catchment groups and councils to pull together data from across the country. We will also be collaborating with Land, Air, Water Aotearoa (LAWA), to share these stories. As work is done to improve the health of our waterways, the database will provide real insights into the effects and outcomes.
